Dave is turning

This is my rehearsal copy of our Area piece: Berlioz’s La Carnaval Romain. I’ve been moved onto second cornet for this and rather enjoying the experience, although I have to sometimes think what the heck those notes under the stave are. Can you spot the bottom G#?

The instruction “Dave is turning” is there to remind me to turn the page so that my second cornet compatriot Bren can play a pianissimo bottom D in the next bar.

It’s a great, if rather ancient, piece of music, with some big tunes and lots of places for musical accidents. A good choice for the area I think

Today we visited some very good friends in Lincolnshire. We had a great time catching up – this was the first time they’d met Ruby, other than by seeing the photos I put up on Facebook.

Ruby’s wearing one of their son’s baseball caps. He’s 9 and it’s only a little bit big on her huge suede.

We went to Homebase to look at blinds for our bathroom and Ruby wandered off into the kitchen sales area. We couldn’t see where she was until a little leg emerged from this cupboard.

She’d managed to get all the way in. I think we’ll need to keep her on an leash next time.

Ruby’s feeling much better, especially now that she’s wearing the nice purple outfit that Nanny brought back from Toronto

The 1980s is a decade that fashion forgot but a time when perms flourished, even among men. Men with ‘taches and bow-ties.

This is my mate Yarker in his brass band uniform. It’s a photo of a photocopy of a photo

Ruby is starting to feel a bit better now, thankfully. No vomit for two days and she’s starting to eat properly.

Also: cute as hell

Peppa Pig isn’t Ruby’s favourite TV programme (Timmy Time takes that crown) but it passes a few minutes.

This is one of those “that’ll do” photos taken later on in the day after I’d forgotten to take anything worthwhile.

Our trip to Leeds was cut short because our little girl got rather poorly. My mum’s dining room carpet took a direct hit from Ruby’s projectile vomiting, while my arm and the dining room wall took a glancing blow.

We decided to head home rather than inflict more vomit, and a poorly baby, on my mum.

Poor little Ruby is quite under the weather and having lots of naps. It’s not fun for her at all, and a bit of a worry for us.

Note: added these comments on Friday and she is now as right as rain

This weekend saw us heading up to Leeds to visit my Mum and Stepdad. The Weather Gods decided to greet our northwards trek with a sprinkling of snow, making the drive up the M1 slightly more exciting then we wanted.

Some pillock in Honda Civic somehow managed to powerslide down the outside lane causing the rest of us to slam on the brakes.

I am now aware that my ABS works a treat. I’d kept well back and stopped in plenty of time. He (or she) managed to miss everyone and everything too. I think most other drivers were taking it steady and nothing was damaged.

We got to Leeds in good time and have had a lovely day, although Ruby has a bit of a vomiting bug and feeling somewhat under the weather (just like the weather, really)

This is my Mum’s garden. Not really the sort of day for sitting on the decking sipping Margheritas.
