Hi Lol!

What the heck is he doing in Abu Dhabi?

Oregon is just gorgeous. I think I could quite happily live there, especially as it's so scenic and they have no sales tax. An amazing part of America.

Hope you're both well, if apart. Adam too :)

I do occasionally take photos with a "proper" camera but the Skeggy beach one was taken with my trusty iPhone. Don't have to worry too much about apertures and the like there...

I do love my photography though. Mucking about in a lightroom seems interesting but I much prefer the digital way these days.

Thanks for popping over to my blog! It may get a little bit over-populated with T306 stuff over the next few months :)

Ahhhhh -good atmosphere, very evocative - a nicely balanced / composed shot. A cloudy overcast day with the wind whipping off shore by the looks - obviously not too cold to shiver using a slow a shutter speed though by lack of camera shake ! high contrast, great depth of field. f4 @ 1/60th second? There again it could be HP4 / Fp4 giving wider latitude...or digital? ah the days of rocking the dev and fixer trays under a red light in the darkroom....Dad was a pro - grew up in the darkroom and got my 1st camera before my Timex watch ! not much chance for photography now though - stacks of rich pictures though? rgds Sel

Dave ? Dave ?? Is it really you ??

Glad you enjoyed your holiday in Oregon, we went there in 1990 and have a permanent reminder as our son was born nine months later.

All well here ; Al went to work in Abu Dhabi at the end of November, came back for a fortnight at Christmas and is back there now !

Best to you and yours

I had the same letter from them after trying to buy gift cards. Such a pain in the neck. Every time I try to do the 'easy' thing and buy my nieces and nephew in Canada gifts online it is always so difficult. Yet, as you say, when I go back to Canada and use my UK visa debit, it is totally fine!
I also tried Toys R Us, and they have a bug in their 'billing address' form that doesn't allow me to put in an UK address, even though they explicitly state they accept payment from cards from the UK. And when I emailed their customer service team they said 'the form won't let you put a post code in that is less than three characters long'. Um yes, I don't know of anywhere in the world that has a post code less than three characters. I put my normal UK post code in (6 characters) and it doesn't work. The problem is not my post code, the problem is a bug in your form that is making you lose out on TONS of revenue from ex-pats wanting to buy gifts for family in Canada . Stop blaming the customer and sort it out or you won't survive this recession!

Cheers Billy. This is one of the core subjects of my chosen degree (Computing and Systems Practice) so really pleased that I've managed to get it together near the end!

The Java is almost like an interesting side-line, though it'll be useful at work too.

Thanks for coming over here! See you on M257 in a few weeks :)

Heh, the context of the story's not your fault and the questions you'll raise will exist if they're raised or not. I say do it if it's interesting.

T214 sounds quite a challenging course, glad it's not on my list! ;oD

Best of luck with your EMA.

Dave,

Cheers for replying. I looked into how the OU see distribution of completed course materials and regretted asking you. Hopefully no offence caused.

Think i'll sign up for M255 in Oct still, don't have too much experience programming but have a good book to work through so should get me started.

I expect the RAF is a completely different place now, I've been in 10 yrs and it's unrecognisable now from when I joined.

Cheers again Dave, happy trails.

Hi Ash :)

I left back in 2000 so I think the resettlement courses are quite different now. I did a course in GSM technology thinking I could get a job in mobile comms (which didn't happen). A testing course would have been great if it'd been around then.

M255 has some very tough parts if you're not a programmer or done any programming. I did very well in the assignments generally (93% average) but found the exam incredibly hard (very pleased with my 61% result). Having said that, I thought that the course itself was very good and that I'd have found the exam a LOT easier if I'd been able to spend more time revising.

There's not much on the CD other than BlueJ (the IDE used for the course) and all the activities/methods/classes for the coursework. I'm not willing to pass them on, sorry, as the OU frowns on this and I think it's important to consider copyright. It's fairly easy at the start, though, so you should be OK.

Good luck :)

Hi Dave,

Thinking about studying M255, I read that it was an enjoyable course but the exam was nails! Can't believe you have to write code in longhand on paper, and I thought the OU was a relatively forward thinking Uni!! Seems like they need to catch up to 2011.

Anyhoo, the course I was looking at starts in Oct, wondered if you still have the CDROM from your mailing and if it would be too cheeky to ask you to copy it and either email the .zip, pop it in skydrive or slap it on a CD and post it for me, thought I would get ahead as the initial couple of weeks are generally analysing your learning strategy, etc and i'd like to get cracking.

Just as an aside, I too am Cpl in RAF and wondered if you did the testing courses as part of the resettlement process and was it a good decision.

Cheers,
