We live in an old house – over 100 years old now – and it has some interesting features, including a nice glass-paned front door. Unfortunately the sun tends to set in front of our house dazzling us if we’re sat in the lounge so that we have to shut the blinds.

We do get some interesting reflections, though, and I’ve not managed to get any decent shots of this. I figured I’d try it with Hipstamatic on my iPhone and this is the result. Me likey.

I’m really liking the BlackKeys SuperGrain Film effect on here but I really should use a few of the others too.

We have a lovely, little vegetarian café around the corner to us called The Flying Goose. She sells some rather nice sandwiches, pittas and a lovely mezzé along with some other organic/veggie-themed products. We like eating there even though it’s a bit of trek of at least 20 yards to get there. We’re also on good terms with the owner Hilary.

We popped in today to grab a quick drink of tea or something wet and I noticed that she’s started selling Fentiman’s bottled soft drinks. These are lovely “traditional” drinks like Dandelion & Burdock or the Ginger Beer in this photo. Delicious and kind enough on my unsettled stomach.

I figured a bit of Ginger Beer might be considered “medicinal” so I went for that. Tasty

I have a spare few minutes today and thought I’d take some photos of apples for another project. I wasn’t sure how to best present my apples (which are these quite ordinary-looking things) so I decided to experiment with placing one in a translucent flask lid.

Lighting was an issue but I think I got an interesting result. It could “pop” more but I quite like how this came out

Today was the first time I’d ventured out of the house since a very short trip to the deli on Saturday. We were both feeling a bit rough but we needed to get our for some fresh air so we headed to our favourite café – Belle & Jerome in Beeston – for a cup of tea and a scone.

The walk was nice but I didn’t want anything to eat when I got there and I only drank half of my latté. I hate being ill enough to be put off my appetite – I love my food!

Belle & Jerome is a really nice place to eat. Their evening meals are exceptional quality at reasonable prices and they’ve always got some nice cake or biscuits to eat alongside an afternoon cup of tea or coffee. Why go to one of the many chain equivalents when you can support and independent retailer like this eh? We’d much rather go here than to the Costa Coffee a few doors down

I’m over the worst of this bug though still feeling like death warmed up. We’re all a bit wiped out and having another day sat in the house trying not to infect anyone else.

Ruby is copying pretty well and Jo is starting to come ’round to something resembling normality too.

I only took two photos all day and as Jo isn’t too keen to appear in many photos I’ve cropped her mostly out of this one! Ruby enjoys lying like this on Jo’s lap and she was having a right old time being tickled. Giggles all ’round!

I’ve used the Cross Process app to add interest but the resultant image is very grainy

Babies are toxic. They might look cute but they carry some of the most virulent viruses know to mankind.

A friend of ours has a daughter and she had gastroenteritis. Not a pleasant experience for a 5 month old! Since then a number of babies in our group have had similar (if less severe) vomiting problems, including our Ruby.

Because she can’t keep her germs to herself both Jo and I have joined in. Thankfully, we started at different times, so Jo was ill first and I could tend to her fevered brow while looking after Ruby then when I came down with it she could do the same for us. We’ve just about coped with our first (and definitely not last) bout of baby illness.

Ruby is OK apart from some runny nappy issues. I’m about ready to drop (hence the rather sub-standard photo for today)

I decided to take a few photos of a few things around our lab today, just ordinary, boring things. I can’t really show any (or much) of the equipment here but there’s all sorts of the normal stuff about.

I thought the fire point was quite interesting. And red. Very red. I like red, of which this has much.

Ruby was 5 months old a couple of days ago and I completely forgot all about it. 5 months already!

She’s a dream of a baby. We really couldn’t have hoped for anything more

This sign always confuses me. It’s either saying “walk wherever the bloody hell you want” or “walk around this sign”

(I don’t have a lot to say today – feeling a bit grumpy!)
